How to create/delete an E-Mail forwarder Stampa

  • 6

An email forwarder in cPanel is essential when you want a copy of an incoming email to be automatically sent to another email address. Follow the steps below to create an email forwarder in cPanel:

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Click on the "Forwarders" icon.
  3. Click on "Add Forwarder."
  4. In the first box, enter the prefix for the email address from which you want to forward emails.
  5. In the drop-down menu next to the "@" sign, select the domain associated with the email address.
  6. Choose the destination for the forwarded emails. You will have three options: a. "Forward to an email address" is the default option. Select this to send emails to a specific email address. Refer to the related article for forwarding to multiple email addresses. b. "Discard with error to sender (at SMTP time)" will cause emails to bounce back to the sender with an error message. You can customize the failure message. c. "Pipe to a program" sends the email to a chosen script. Enter a path relative to your home directory. If the script requires an interpreter like Perl or PHP, omit the "/usr/bin/perl" or "/usr/bin/php" part. Ensure your script is executable and has the appropriate hashbang at the top. If you're unsure about adding the hashbang, name your script file with the correct extension, and you'll be prompted to add the hashbang automatically.
  7. Click "Add Forwarder" to complete the creation of your new forwarder.

You have now created a forwarder. When someone sends an email to the specified address, a copy will also be sent to the provided email address. Note that a copy of the email will remain on the server, which may eventually fill the email box and stop forwarding messages.

To prevent this issue, create a forwarder for a non-existent email address. This way, there will be no email box for a copy of the message to be saved in before it is forwarded off the server.
